The service

What a custom wedding suit actually is

A custom wedding suit is built on a pattern drafted for one body: yours. At VAMANA we do it two ways —Made to Measure, in 2 to 3 weeks from MX$13,500, and Bespoke Full Canvas, in 4 to 6 weeks from MX$24,000. Both prices include Mexican VAT.

The difference from an off-the-rack suit isn't the fabric. It's four things no later alteration can fix: the length of the torso, the slope of the shoulder, the pitch of the back, and the balance between one shoulder and the other — because on every body one sits lower than the other, yours included.

That's what makes a suit look worn rather than borrowed in photographs. And you'll be looking at your wedding photographs for the rest of your life.

Option 1

Made to Measure

  • Base pattern adjusted to your measurements to the millimetre
  • More than 30 personalised measurement points
  • High-quality fused interlining
  • Your choice of cloth, lining, buttons and details
  • 1 intermediate fitting + delivery
  • 2 to 3 weeks · Express in 2 weeks: +15%
  • From MX$13,500 (2 pieces) · MX$15,000 (3 pieces)

Option 2 · what we recommend for the groom

Bespoke Full Canvas

  • A unique pattern drafted from scratch, exclusively yours
  • Horsehair canvas sewn by hand: the garment moulds to your body with wear
  • Shoulder, lapel and chest worked by hand
  • Hand-cut buttonholes and hand-finished interior seams
  • Multiple fittings during construction
  • 60 to 80 hours of work per garment
  • Your pattern stays in the VAMANA archive for every future commission
  • 4 to 6 weeks · Express in 2 weeks: +15%
  • From MX$24,000 (2 pieces) · MX$29,500 (3 pieces)

A full canvas suit improves with the years: the horsehair moulds to the body and the drape settles with wear. A fused suit degrades with every dry cleaning. The cloth may be the same; the life of the garment is not.

Groom + groomsmen

The groom commissions.
The groomsmen rent.

This is the part almost nobody in Guadalajara solves properly. The groom wants a suit that stays with him; the groomsmen aren't about to spend a thousand dollars on something they'll wear for one afternoon. VAMANA does both under one roof, with the same cloth and the same eye for style.

The result: the party genuinely coordinates — same tone, same lapel, same length — and the groom remains the only one wearing a garment made for him. Which is exactly how it should read in the photographs.

How we organise it

  • One group appointment. Bring the groomsmen on the same day and we leave with every measurement taken. Nobody gets chased separately.
  • Groomsmen who live abroad. We take their measurements remotely using our guide and leave the fitting for the days before the wedding.
  • Delivery and return. Rentals are delivered ready to wear. Late returns are charged at MX$150 per day; cancelling 7 or more days ahead carries no charge.

The process

From the first appointment to the aisle

We recommend starting three to four months ahead. The making itself takes less — 2 to 6 weeks depending on the construction — but that margin lets you choose the cloth unhurried, take the fittings calmly, and sort out shirt, shoes and accessories before the calendar fills up.

4 to 3 months before

1 · The appointment

One hour in Providencia. You choose the cloth from the bunch books, we take more than 30 measurement points and settle the model: lapel, buttoning, lining, vents, buttonholes, and what gets embroidered inside. You leave with a fixed price and a date for the first fitting.

3 to 2 months before

2 · The fittings

Made to Measure includes one intermediate fitting; Bespoke Full Canvas, several during construction. The first is done with the garment basted together, while the structure can still be corrected. If your body changes along the way, the suit changes with it.

2 to 1 month before

3 · The groomsmen and the rest

A group appointment to size the party and close the coordinated rentals. In parallel we make the shirt to measure, which takes 10 days, and settle cufflinks, pocket square and shoes.

The week before

4 · Delivery and final fitting

We deliver in the week before the wedding, with the final alteration done and the suit tried on. Never the night before: if something is missing, there has to be time to fix it. For weddings out of town, we coordinate delivery before you travel.

The cloth

Which cloth works for
a wedding in Jalisco

Guadalajara marries in haciendas, in gardens, and in heat. Cloth matters more here than in any cold city: a winter wool at a midday September wedding ruins both the photographs and the evening.

Hacienda or garden · 26–32 °C

Cool wool or wool-linen

Light weights, open weaves and construction without heavy canvas. It breathes, it doesn't collapse, and it survives standing through the whole ceremony.

Ballroom or evening wedding

Worsted wool, Super 120–150

Reda, Guabello, Barrington, Stylbiella. More body, better drape and a discreet lustre that evening photography rewards.

Beach and destination

Linen, tropical wool, blends

For Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita, Careyes or Los Cabos, in light tones. During the rainy season we avoid pure linen: a wool-linen blend holds up better.

Strict black tie

Bridal grain and tuxedo cloths

Cloths made specifically for grooms and for tuxedos, including the San Ildefonso bridal grain and wool-silk, offered only in Bespoke Full Canvas.

Our Luxury and Ultra Luxury cloths — Zegna, Loro Piana, Reda CG, Guabello Super 180, Stylbiella, Joseph H. Clissold — are worked exclusively in Bespoke Full Canvas. Fusing the canvas of a Super 160 would waste the cloth. That isn't commercial policy: it's respect for the craft.

What you should know about the price

  • VAT is already included. When we invoice, the tax is itemised out of the total at no extra cost.
  • Express. If your wedding falls inside the normal lead time, there's a 2-week delivery for an additional 15%. Express shirts in 5 days, +15%.
  • Groomsmen rental. MX$1,000 refundable deposit. Late return MX$150 per day. Cancellation 7 or more days ahead: no charge; 6 days or fewer: 30% penalty.
  • VAMANA Private. A MX$3,000 per-garment upgrade: an expanded selection of linings and finishes, personalised details, and the private attention of the atelier at every stage.
  • One-year sartorial guarantee and 90 days of guarantee on the finished garment. The atelier can hold your suit for up to 6 months — useful if you're marrying abroad or want to collect close to the date.
  • No discounts off list price. The price you see is the price everyone pays.

On the old question of renting versus commissioning: the groom's suit is the only garment from the wedding that stays with you. It keeps being worn at your friends' weddings, at dinners and at work events for years, and in Bespoke Full Canvas it improves with wear. That's why we recommend the groom buys and the groomsmen rent. Each of them on the side of the equation that suits them.

Frequently asked

What every groom asks

How much does a custom wedding suit cost in Guadalajara?

At VAMANA, a Made to Measure wedding suit starts at MX$13,500 for two pieces and MX$15,000 for three. In Bespoke Full Canvas, from MX$24,000 for two pieces and MX$29,500 for three. All prices include Mexican VAT. The final price depends on the cloth you choose and is fixed at the first appointment.

How far in advance should I order my wedding suit?

Three to four months before the wedding. The making itself takes 2 to 3 weeks in Made to Measure and 4 to 6 weeks in Bespoke Full Canvas, but that extra margin lets you choose cloth unhurried, take fittings calmly, and resolve shirt, shoes and accessories.

What is the difference between Made to Measure and Bespoke Full Canvas?

Made to Measure adjusts a base pattern to your measurements, with high-quality fused interlining and one intermediate fitting, in 2 to 3 weeks.

Bespoke Full Canvas drafts a unique pattern from scratch, with horsehair canvas sewn by hand, shoulder, lapel and chest worked by hand, hand-cut buttonholes and several fittings during construction. It takes 60 to 80 hours of handwork and 4 to 6 weeks. Your pattern stays in the archive, so a second bespoke commission is faster and even more precise.

Should I buy or rent my wedding suit?

The groom should buy; the groomsmen should rent. The groom's suit is the only garment from the wedding that stays with him: it keeps being worn at other weddings, dinners and work events for years, and in Bespoke Full Canvas it improves with wear because the horsehair canvas moulds to the body. The groomsmen wear theirs for one afternoon, so a rental from MX$3,800 makes more sense. VAMANA does both, so the whole party shares the same cloth.

Do you rent suits for groomsmen and the wedding party?

Yes. Rental is MX$3,800 for a two-piece suit, MX$4,300 for three pieces and MX$5,500 for a tuxedo, with a MX$1,000 refundable deposit. The garments are altered in our workshop and coordinated with the groom's suit. We arrange a single group appointment to size everyone on the same day.

Can you coordinate the groom's suit with the groomsmen's?

Yes, and it's what we do best. Because the groom's suit and the groomsmen's rentals come out of the same workshop, we coordinate tone, lapel, length and details so the group genuinely looks assembled rather than vaguely similar. The groom keeps the distinction of wearing a garment made for him.

Do you work with couples getting married in Mexico from abroad?

Yes. We regularly dress grooms flying in for destination weddings in Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita, Careyes, Tequila, Chapala and Los Cabos. We speak English, we can take initial measurements remotely using our guide, and we schedule the fitting for the days you're in Guadalajara. The atelier can also hold the finished suit for up to 6 months.

Which cloth works for a hacienda or garden wedding in Jalisco?

For daytime or garden weddings at 26 to 32 °C, a light cool wool or a wool-linen blend, built without heavy canvas: it breathes and doesn't collapse. For evening or ballroom weddings, a worsted wool with more body, around Super 120 to 150, which drapes better and responds well to evening photography. In the rainy season, June through September, avoid pure linen — it creases with the humidity — and use a wool-linen blend instead.

Do you make tuxedos, morning coats or tailcoats?

Yes. Tuxedos from MX$15,000 in Made to Measure and from MX$25,000 in Bespoke Full Canvas. Three-piece morning coats and tailcoats from MX$22,000 in Made to Measure and from MX$59,000 in Bespoke Full Canvas. We also rent tuxedos at MX$5,500 for the groomsmen of a strictly formal wedding.

What if I gain or lose weight before the wedding?

It's accounted for. That's why there are intermediate fittings and why the final alteration happens in the week before the wedding, not earlier. Suits are cut with inlay reserved in the main seams, so they can be let out or taken in without remaking the garment. If you're in the middle of a physical change, say so at the first appointment and we'll adjust the fitting schedule.

Do you embroider initials and the wedding date inside the suit?

Yes. We hand-embroider a silk label into the lining with whatever you decide: your initials, the wedding date, or a phrase. It's the detail most appreciated years later, precisely because nobody sees it but the two of you.

Do you have an express service if my wedding is in less than a month?

Yes. Express delivery in 2 weeks for an additional 15% over list price, in both Made to Measure and Bespoke Full Canvas. Shirts to measure have a 5-day express, also at +15%. Write to us with the exact date of your wedding and we'll confirm what's possible.

What guarantee does the suit carry?

A one-year sartorial guarantee and 90 days of guarantee on the finished garment. Repairs carry a one-week guarantee. Sales are not refundable in cash. The atelier can hold your garment for up to 6 months.

Do you give discounts?

No. VAMANA gives no discounts off list price, ever. The published price is what everyone pays, and that protects whoever bought before you. What does exist is the VAMANA Private upgrade at MX$3,000 per garment, with an expanded selection of linings and finishes and the private attention of the atelier.

Where are you and how do I book?
